Amitraz is a non-systemic acaricide and insecticide with contact, repellency and synergistic action, making it extremely useful as a pesticide. It is particularly effective against acarids and other insects in crop protection. Its use as a pesticide in animal health as an ectoparasiticide for the control of lice, fleas and all developmental stages of ticks on cattle, goats, sheep, pigs and dogs is exceptional. Expellent action causes ticks to withdraw their mouth parts and fall off the host animal. It can exhibits synergistic properties when used in combination with other pesticides.
It is used in a wide variety of formulations that include: emulsifiable concentrates, wettable powders and pour-on. It can be used on its own or in combination with other insecticides.
