Fipronil is a moderately systemic insecticide with contact and stomach action belonging to the phenyl pyrazole group of insecticides. It is a broad-spectrum insecticide used in public health to control ants, beetles, cockroaches, fleas and ticks. It is used in turf management to control mole crickets and in structural foundation treatments against termites. In crop protection to control, thrips, rootworms wireworm and weevils. In animal health as an ectoparasiticide in companion animals against ticks and fleas. It can be used on its own or in combination with other insecticide molecules. It is widely used in a variety of formulations that include: suspension concentrates, wettable granules, granules, baits, emulsifiable concentrates, ready-to-use products and ultra-low volume sprays.

It can be used on its own or in combination with other insecticides and the synergist piperonal butoxide that enhances the activity of an insecticide and assists in overcoming metabolic (detoxification) resistance.
