Piperonyl Butoxide

Piperonyl Butoxide

Piperonyl Butoxide is an insecticide synergist that inhibits mixed function oxidases (MFO’s) responsible for the degradation of the toxicant in the insect’s body but can also act on other enzymes such as esterase’s, thus deactivating the natural detoxification system of insects. Piperonyl Butoxide increases the efficacy of insecticides in terms of knock-down and killing properties, while at the same time reducing the amount of active ingredients needed in the formulation. It is approved for pre- and postharvest application to a wide variety of crops and commodities, including grain, fruits and vegetables. In Public Health, Animal Health, Farm Hygiene and Household products it is used extensively to control insect pests in and around the home, in food-handling establishments such as restaurants, food storage and preparation areas and for human and veterinary applications against ectoparasites including head lice, ticks and fleas. Piperonyl Butoxide is used in combination with refined pyrethrum concentrates, synthetic pyrethroids (residual and photolabile), carbamates, organophosphates, and other classes of insecticides. It is compatible with most solvents and co-formulants and can be easily formulated as oil or water-based aerosols, ultra-low volume space sprays, mosquito mats, coils, manufacturing concentrates, emulsifiable concentrates, Ready-to-Use (RTU) macro and micro-emulsions, dusting powders, capsule suspensions and wettable powders.
